Wimbleball Lake Somerset 14th September One Day Meeting
Five members joined the leader Paul Green where we first took a good look at a splendid specimen of Rumex maritimus (golden dock) and an abundance of Alopecurus aequalis (orange foxtail). At the opposite end of the lake we saw Limosella aquatica(mudwort) and Ranunculus peltatus (pond water-crowfoot) and examined the differences between the two subspecies of Plantago major (greater plantain).
Moving onto Haddon Hill, we all had a rub of the leaves of Myrica gale (bog-myrtle) before having to search hard to find a flower on the Gaultheria procumbens (checkerberry). The day was finished with a visit to Haddon Moor Butterfly Nature Reserve where we found Cirsium x forsteri (meadow x marsh thistle) and Carex x fulva (tawny x common yellow-sedge).
Before going our separate ways we all inspected Hieracium grandidens growing on the wall of the church car park.
