Wild Flower Society Annual General Meeting and members' Weekend

Car parking: There is a small pay and display car park adjacent to the church, entrance on the south-west side of Trinity Square at Post Code LL30 2RB.(£2 for 4hours, £5 for 8 hours). Alternatively, the Llandudno Station car park, Augusta Street (£2 for 12 hours is a 3 minute walk away). There is also free parking in some streets as you get further way from the centre.

Friday 1st September at 2 pm

Branch and Competition Secretaries' Meeting The church hall will be available from 1pm and tea, coffee and biscuits will be available before and after the meeting.

Saturday 2nd September

9.30 am

Walk on the Great Orme. Leaders: Wendy McCarthy (VC 49 Recorder) and Peter Llewellyn Meet at 09:30 at the Car Park at Holy Trinity Church to arrange car sharing to travel to the triangular green on the Orme at the start of Ty'n y Coed road at SH774829, for a 10am start. There is only room for about 10 cars. We hope to see some of the specialities of the Orme, including Goldilocks Aster (Aster linosyris).

1pm: Packed lunch in Church Hall. Tea and coffee will be available

Annual General Meeting followed by a talk on ‘The Extraordinary Flora of Western Australia’, given by Dr Peter Llewellyn

4.00 pm

Tea Party: During the afternoon, entries to the Photographic Competition will be on display and the winners will be announced. Entries to the ‘Shoot and Show’ competition will be voted on by members present at the AGM. There will be our usual Plant Identification Quiz, provided by Stephen Clarkson.

There will also be an auction of botanical books, including several current county floras (proceeds to the WFS).

Sunday 3rd September

Field Meeting at Llyn Sarnau in the Gwydyr Forest near Llanwrst. Leader: Wendy McCarthy

Bring a packed lunch. Meet at 10:30 am at the car park at Hafna mine by the roadside at grid ref. SH781601. From here we will share cars to drive to the car park at Llyn Sarnau at grid ref. SH778591. Here we should see the 3 subspecies of Golden-scaled Male-fern (Dryopteris affinis), Mountain Male-fern (Dryopteris oreades) as well as Maidenhair Spleenwort (Asplenium trichomanes ssp trichomanes), Forked Spleenwort (Asplenium septentrionale), Royal Fern (Osmunda regalis) as well as the hybrid bindweed, Calystegia x lucana, We could also continue on to Cors Bodgynydd a short walk away (about 1.5km but there is room for a couple of cars to park) where we could see Narrow Buckler-fern (Dryopteris carthusiana), Floating Bur-reed (Sparganum angustifolium), Lesser Bladderwort (Utricularia minor), Bog-myrtle (Myrica gale) etc.

Monday 4th September

Field Meeting at Cors Goch Nature Reserve, Anglesey Leader: Dr Hugh Knott (VC 52 Recorder) and a warden from the North Wales Wildlife Trust

Bring a packed lunch. Meet at 10:30am in the car park in Pentraeth, next to St Mary’s Church, on the right had side of the A5025, coming from the Bangor direction, just past the crossroads with the B5109. Grid reference SH52347848, Post Code LL75 7AZ. From here we will share cars for the 3 mile drive to the reserve, which only has parking for 6 cars. Cors Goch is primarily a base-rich fen but also has areas of acid heath and limestone pavement. Plants we should see include Marsh Gentian (Gentiana pneumonanthe), Parsley Water-dropwort (Oenanthe lachenalii), Blue Water-speedwell (Veronica anagallis-aquatica) and Saw-wort (Serratula tinctoria).
