List of all British Plants 2007

For many years the Wild Flower Society has used D.H. Kent's list as a reference. Originally written by J.E. Dandy in 1958, the List of Vascular Plants of the British Isles was re-written by D. H. Kent in 1992 and updated by three supplement dated 1997, 2000 and 2006. According to the Clive Stace, author of the latest supplement 3, there are unlikely to be any further supplements as there is now an urgent need to produce a new book which takes account of some of the recent major taxonomic changes.

The Botanical Society of the British Isles (B.S.B.I.) also produces a downloadable reference list which includes many plants which are casual aliens. These are plants which have been identified but failed to establish themselves permanently in the wild and so do not appear in Kent's list or in the supplements.

With the kind permission of the B.S.B.I this list has been used as the basis of these pages.

The plants on these pages are organised in alphabetical order of Latin name for ease of use. Just click on any of the A to Z letters for a list showing the up-to-date list of plants beginning with that letter. There are approximately 7,800 plants recognised by the B.S.B.I. of which about 4,500 are now also recognised as well established enough to be on Kent's original list or in one of the three supplements. All plants recognised by B.S.B.I. are on these lists but the ones recognised by Kent are highlighted.
